Coaches and managers
Just said yes to running a Vale team? Thank you. Start with the checklist, then come back here for anything during the season.
Before the first game
Start-of-season checklist
Six things to sort before your team takes the field.
1
Register as a team official
Sign up on PlayFootball as a coach or manager. It’s free. If you also play, register as an official first: once approved, you’ll get a code for a discounted player fee.
2
Get your Working With Children Check
Coaches, managers and trainers of U6 to U18 teams need a WWCC, unless they’re under 18 themselves. It’s free for volunteers. Enter your WWCC number when you register on PlayFootball.
3
Get set up on Dribl
Dribl is where MWFA publishes fixtures and where you complete match sheets. Download the Dribl app. Once your registration is approved and you’re added to your team, your fixtures and match sheets will appear there. If you can’t see your team, contact your age-group coordinator.
4
Lock in your training slot
Each team’s coach sets training, within the ground and time the club allocates. MiniRoos teams sort training times at orientation day. Your age-group coordinator will confirm your team’s ground, pitch and time, and can help if you need a change.
5
Collect your kit
The club provides jerseys and a match ball for each team. Players buy shorts and socks from the gear shop. Your coordinator will let you know when and where to collect your team’s kit before the season starts.
6
Come to the season briefings
Each March the club runs a coaching workshop and a coaches and managers meeting, plus a game leader course for MiniRoos. Dates for 2027 will be on the year planner.
Week to week
During the season
Fixtures and match sheets
Check your fixture on Dribl at the start of the season and again late each week, as times and grounds can change. On match day, submit your team’s match sheet in the Dribl app before kick-off and confirm the opposition’s. Leave enough time before kick-off for both.
Grounds and pitches
Fixtures add DT to David Thomas pitch names, so DTJ10A is J10A on the map. Directions and pitch maps for every MWFA ground are on one page.
Match day at David Thomas
For home games, arrive early to help set up and check the pitch is safe to play on. Your coordinator can explain any home-team duties for your age group. The defibrillator is next to the clubhouse on the Campbell Parade side, and ambulances enter from Sloane Crescent.
Wet weather, cancellations and forfeits
Council decides whether David Thomas is open. It updates weekdays at 8am and 3pm, and weekends and public holidays at 7am. The status shows at the top of every page on this site. If you might not field a team, tell your age-group coordinator straight away, before the weekend if you can. Don’t forfeit without talking to them first.
Referees and game leaders
MiniRoos games are run by a game leader from the team. Men’s AL Division 2 and below, and O35 and O45 teams, must nominate at least two qualified team referees.
Coaching resources
Session ideas and the club’s approach for each age group, from the MiniRoos discovery phase to senior football.
